Second year graduate student Office: Campbell Hall, 557 Email: treaster[at]astro.berkeley.edu Research I am currently working with Geoff Bower on the RIPL planet search mission. In my undergraduate career at Purdue University,
I worked under the direction of Professor Laura Cayon on detection of non-Gaussianity in the Cosmic
Microwave Background data from NASA's WMAP mission.
We worked with statisticians to make the Purdue Astrostatistics Group.
The results of our studies can be found in Cayon, Jin, Treaster. “Higher Criticism Statistic: Detecting and Identifying Non-Gaussianity
in the WMAP First Year Data.” MNRAS, vol 362, number 3, page 826. Sept 2005. Teaching I am currently in my third semester of teaching in the Department
of Astronomy as a GSI (Graduate Student Instructor),
similar to a TA. All three semesters I have taught Astronomy 10, Introductory Astronomy for non-majors.
Fall 2006 and Fall 2007, I taught under the instruction of Professor Josh Bloom, serving as head GSI in Fall 2007. For Spring 2007,
I was a GSI for Professor Marc Davis.
Undergraduate Education I attended Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana from August 2002 to May 2006.
I graduated with a double major in physics (with honors) and mathematics, with minors in astrophysics and the history of science.
