Assistant/Associate Project Scientist Position

We invite applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Project Scientist in the fields of high resolution spectroscopy, exoplanets, and instrumentation. We are searching for an experimental astrophysicist with experience in high precision optical spectroscopy. Background in Doppler, exoplanet research is an advantage. Candidates should have obtained their Ph.D. or its equivalent in physics, astrophysics, or a related field by date of hire. The successful candidate will work at U.C. Berkeley, Lick Observatory, and other observatories working 50% time toward the testing and operation of a new fiber- fed, vacuum-sealed, high resolution spectrometer, and on the commissioning of the 2.4-meter telescope and on the 3.0 meter telescope at Lick Observatory, with the goal of Doppler precision of 0.3 meters/sec. Start date is January 2013 (flexible) for 2 years guaranteed, and the possibility of a third year. The salary is in the range of $55 -70K per year, depending on experience. The applicant would have access to both telescopes for their own research. The environment at Berkeley is rich with multiple opportunities to participate in projects that use the Keck and Kepler telescopes.
