Migrating Mac Mail (OS 10.5 Leopard) to CalMail
Assuming that you already use Mac Mail,
configuring it to use CalMail simply entails adding a new account in Mac Mail. To set up Mac Mail for the first time, please see these instructions.
You must have an existing CalMail account before you can link it to Mac Mail. To create a CalMail account, please see
these instructions. If you are using Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger), please see these instructions.
Open Mac Mail
Click on the Mac Mail icon in your Dock or navigate to Applications in the Finder and double click on the Mail icon.
Select File>Add Account...
With Mac Mail active, select Add Account from the topmost File menu.
Enter Account Information
- Enter your Full Name
- Enter your return e-mail address
- Leave Password field blank for now
- Click "Continue"
Enter Incoming Server Info
- Account Type: IMAP
- Description: CalMail
- Incoming server: calmail.berkeley.edu
- User Name: Your CalMail username
- Enter your CalMail Password
- Click "Continue"
Enter Outgoing Server Info
- Description: calmail
- Outgoing server: calmail.berkeley.edu
- Uncheck "only this server"
- Check "Use Authentication"
- User Name: Your CalMail username
- Enter your CalMail Password
- Click "Continue"
Take Account Online
Verify that both Incoming and Outgoing mail servers have SSL: on.- Check "Take account online"
- Click "Create"
Mail Deletion Error
If you try to delete a CalMail message and you get a "null mailbox" error, you need to make a small change to your Mac Mail configuration. This change is detailed in the following steps.
Open Mail Preferences
Select Preferences... from the File menu.
Select CalMail Account
Click the Accounts icon and select CalMail on the left.
Select Mailbox Behaviors
Set Trash Preference
Uncheck the box next to "Store deleted messages on the server"
