Migrating Thunderbird to CalMail
Assuming that you already use Thunderbird,
configuring it to use CalMail simply entails adding a new account in Thunderbird.
You must have an existing CalMail account before you can link it to Thunderbird. To create a CalMail account, please see
these instructions.
Open Thunderbird
Select File>New>Account...
With Thunderbird active, select New>Account... from the topmost File menu.
New Email account
You should see the New Account Setup panel appear.- Check "Email account"
- Click "Next"
Enter Identity Info
- Enter your name
- Enter your return email address
- Click "Next"
Enter Server Info
- Type: check IMAP
- Incoming server: calmail.berkeley.edu
- Outgoing server: calmail.berkeley.edu
- Click "Next"
Enter CalMail Username
- Enter your CalMail username
- Click "Next"
Enter Account Name
- Enter a name, e.g. "CalMail"
- Click "Next"
Verify and Finish
Click "Finish"
Edit Account Settings
Select Account Settings... from the Edit menu at top.
Select Server Settings
Select "Server Settings" for your CalMail account from the left hand menu.
Use SSL
In the right hand panel, check "SSL" under "Use secure connection."
Select SMTP Settings
Select "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" for your CalMail account from the left hand menu.
Edit CalMail SMTP Settings
Select the CalMail SMTP server and click "Edit..."
Use SSL
- Check SSL under "Use secure connection"
- Port should switch to 465
- Click "OK" on lower right
The first time you check mail, you will be prompted for your CalMail password. You can ask Thunderbird to remember the password if you wish so that you do not have to type it each time Thunderbird checks for new mail.
