My research interests focus on star and planet formation, as well as astronomy pedagogy. In particular, I am interested in the formation of massive Population III stars, the first stars of the Universe. I am also interested in the formation of planetesimals, the kilometer-sized building blocks of rocky planets and gas giant cores, and dense cores, the natal grounds of stars. My pedagogy interests include the training and preparation of graduate students and future faculty in college instruction, the use computer simulations and online applets in Astronomy 101 courses, and group-think dynamics in scientific discussions.
I am an avid geocacher, jogger, and popular science enthusiast. I like to spend my free time day dreaming about new and innovative courses and activities that get high school students and college students enthusiastic about science.
