Convective Penetration and Gravity Wave generation in the Sun
Tamara Rogers (UCSC) - 6 Mar at 12:00 noon
There are several hydrodynamical process which are not well understood
in the solar interior. In this talk I will discuss numerical
hydrodynamic simulations of some of these processes; namely convective
penetration and gravity wave generation. The talk will be split into
two main parts. In the first part I will discuss convective
penetration and overshoot using a realistic thermodynamic state. In
the second part I will discuss internal gravity wave (IGW) generation,
propagation and dissipation. Finally, the angular momentum transport
by these waves and other processes in the solar interior will be
reviewed.
The seminar will be held in 544 Campbell Hall.
