[19 Jun 2003: We are chartering an cruise of the Napali Coast with Holoholo Charters for the evening of July 3rd. The cruise includes dinner and drinks and lasts for 3-4 hours (sunset is at 7:20). Checkin time is 2:45-3pm at their office at Port Allen (see their web page). Call Holoholo at 800-848-6130 to reserve a seat with the "Golub/Law" chartered cruise.

23 Mar 2003: Similar rates to those mentioned previously (see below) are still available. Unfortunately, California doesn't seem to be included in the current fare war....

22 Jan 2003: We've just seen tickets from Boston (BOS) to Honolulu (HNL) for $580 on travelocity for 6/27 (fri) - 7/10 (thurs, arriving fri). This is one of the best fares one might expect to find!

To give a rough idea, a typical flight (from Chicago to Honolulu, which is roughly the average of all our mainland guests) costs about $800 round trip. A poor price would be $1000, and a cheap ticket would be around $600.
For those using frequent flier miles, you may want to hurry. There are limited seats allocated for frequent fliers, so they may go early. We've heard that Delta has already filled its ff seats for July flights to Hawai'i (although they may open some later...).]

• A good general starting point to visiting Kaua'i, by Frommer's and courtesy of Travelocity.

• Getting there: American and United both fly into Lihue (LIH).
  Much of the time it is cheaper to fly into Honolulu (via any major airline) and take Aloha or Hawaiian airlines for ~$120 r/t to LIH. These airlines sell regular tickets through their websites, a travel agent, or your favorite travel web site. You can also call them directly; Aloha's phone number is (800) 367 - 5250.
  Airline group rates: We have a deal with American. Call them directly at 1-800-433-1790 to purchase tickets, and give them our group authorization number (Starfile number), which is 7763AA. You will receive 5% off your tickets, or 10% if you are purchasing at least 30 days in advance (for 1st class, business class and unrestricted fares it's 10% or 15% with advanced purchases). You get the discount on the best fare available at the time of your call (web-only fares are ineligible). You may fly any time between 6/25/03 and 7/15/03 (ten days on either end of the wedding). You may fly into HNL or LIH ( or fly into one and out of the other).

• Getting around: There is a public bus on Kauai, but it's far easier to rent a car instead (see below). Public bus schedules can be mailed to you if you call the county transportation agency at (808) 241 - 6410.

  The airport has most major car rental companies, and based on a quick travelocity search, it looks like national is the cheapest there. We have a discount rate with Avis; call 800-331-1212 or visit web site using this "AWD" code, D003737, for more info. Similarly for Hertz using the "CV" number 02R30001.

• Accomodations: We recommend a couple of resorts on Kaua'i's east side.

  First, some of the better weekly rates, particularly for groups, can be found at a nice group of condos at the Kaua'i Beach Villas. See http://beachvillaskauai.com. These can be rented from Kaua'i Vacation Rentals.

  Second, we have secured some nightly rates at a nice, mid-range hotel in Kapa'a called Aston Islander on the Beach. To get the rate, call the hotel directly at 1-800-847-7417, ask for Sheila, and tell her you're with Casey Law's wedding. You'll get a room for a "manager's special" rate, plus an upgrade to the next better room view. (The rooms are not different, just the views.) The cheapest rooms are the garden views, for $78, and the upgrade from that is to partial ocean view. They'll ask for a credit card number, one night deposit, and your in/out dates.
  If you're still interested in taking the public bus, this hotel is in the Coconut Marketplace, where the Lihue-Hanalei bus stops approximately hourly Mon-Fri and sporadically on Saturday.

• Local attractions: Plenty. (See above, for starters.) Here is a short summary of some hiking on the island. There are many guidebooks for Kauai, and even more that cover all the major Hawaiian Islands. A good Kauai book is The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook, which can be purchased at amazon for $10.47. You may also find something useful at your public library.
