An Automatic Outlier Detection and Flagging Algorithm for AIPS++


For most of my time during the summer of 2002 at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Socorro, New Mexico, I worked on researching various routines to automatically flag outliers (such as RFI) from interferometer visibility data sets. In particular, I researched in detail various distance-metric-based exclusion techniques and how to optimize them for very large data sets, demonstrating that a combined bin-population and minimum-distance algorithm might be feasable for implementation in routines for processing next-generation radio telescope data.
