Postdoctoral Fellow in Radio Astronomy Calibration and Imaging Applications are solicited for a postdoctoral position at the University of California, Berkeley. The successful applicant will collaborate with Prof. Geoffrey Bower, other researchers within the Radio Astronomy Laboratory, and members of the Square Kilometer Array Technology Development Program (SKA TDP; PI, Prof. James Cordes, Cornell University). The TDP is a four-year program to explore the engineering challenges associated with constructing the SKA (see http://www.skatelescope.org). This position is for the purpose of studying calibration and imaging challenges associated with the large data volume and rigorous technical specifications of the SKA. With the SETI Institute, UC Berkeley operates the Allen Telescope Array (http://ral.berkeley.edu/ata), an SKA pathfinder telescope. The position is for two years with possible extension to third and fourth years subject to availability of funding and satisfactory performance. Applicants should send a CV, bibliography, statement of research interests, and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent. Materials should be sent to Lorraine Dowling, Department of Astronomy, 601 Campbell Hall, Berkeley, CA 94720. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. The applicant should have a Ph.D in astronomy, astrophysics, physics, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field. Experience in areas of radio astronomy techniques, interferometry, high-throughput computing, and/or digital signal processing techniques is strongly encouraged. The starting salary will be commensurate with experience and competitive with other postdoctoral positions. Inquiries may be made by email to Prof. Bower (gbower@astro.berkeley.edu).
