The annual meeting of the Keck
Observatory community, held this year at Berkeley, has as its purpose
to showcase recent and interesting results from the Keck I and Keck II
telescopes on Mauna Kea. It is also a forum for obtaining status reports
on current and new instrumentation, and for discussing initiatives and
opportunities that are still in the planning stages. |
|
We hope to have resounding participation from the WMKO,
Caltech, NASA, UC and UH members of our scientific partnership.
Format
The Keck Science meeting is a one-day meeting consisting of short talks
and posters. Anyone can give a talk: please volunteer a title and abstract
when you register:
-
Talks
-
There will be a single serial oral session.
-
Talks will be a total of 15 minutes with 5 minutes for questions.
-
We supply two viewgraph projectors and a computer projection.
-
Other AV needs should be specially arranged.
-
Posters
-
We will provide easels for 36" x 48" (W x H) posters.

Bring handouts so your poster will be remembered!
-
Poster location will be allocated on a first-come-first serve basis on
the meeting day.
-
Posters will be up all day with viewing opportunities during breaks.
-
We will schedule time for poster presenters who want to give a "one viewgraph,
one minute, no-questions" (strictly enforced) summary of their poster during
the oral session.
-
Coffee breaks and lunch
-
Ample time will be scheduled for informal discussions and poster viewing.
-
"Grill the Director" at the post-session barbeque!
-
There will be a barbeque following the scientific sessions and the Director's
remarks.
-
Fred Chaffee will be available for informal converstations regarding WMKO.
-
Barbeque tickets will be on sale during the meeting (estimated cost: $20
cash).
The detailed schedule and poster layout will be based on the responses
received.
How to participate
If you want to give a talk or a poster you must fill in the electronic
registration form by September 6. The general registriation deadline
is September 20. Everyone who is planning on attending must register
so that we have a head-count for the caterer.
Note, that while lunch and refreshments will be provided, participants
are responsible for their own travel and lodging costs. We have made block
reservations at several local hotels. These hotels
have only limited space, so book early.
Thanks for helping us make this event a success!
