Using the Hubble Space Telescope and Keck Observatory, I have obtained very sensitive data at several optical and near-infrared wavelengths, at several epochs, to answer the following questions:
- Determine the scattered light colors of the dust and using models of dust scattering, understand the physical nature of dust (e.g. dust vs. ice, small vs. large grains, fluffy vs. compact).
- Search for planets orbiting within the dust belt
- Plan future observations that will reveal the fine structure of the belt.
Below is a new HST image of Fomalhaut that is part of this work in progress (to be published in 2008).
