These photos were taken on Tuesday, February 12.

The anti-war "Code Pink" encampment is on the left, in front of Berkeley's city hall, on the west side of Martin Luther King Blvd. On the opposite side of the street are the supporters of the Marines (large image).

Most of the fuss is about this parking meter, which is located in front of the US Marines recruiting office on Shattuck Avenue (large image). Berkeley's City Council gave this parking spot to the anti-marine-recruitment group "Code Pink", without offering other parking spots to other groups, such as those that support the marines.

Meanwhile, ten-minutes walk away, we see the UC Berkeley community enjoying the warm sun on a mid-February day. (large image). This area is the north side of campus, mainly known for its wealthy homes and residents.

Walking over to the less-wealthy, south side of campus, one finds another group of UC Berkeley students, the ones who enrolled in Army ROTC so that they can pay their tuition bills (large image).

Returning to Berkeley's City Hall, the crowd has tripled in size and the Berkeley Police Department forms a barrier in between the two groups. According to news reports, each of the police officers received $1000 in overtime pay for standing there that day. (large image).

Earlier I noticed that all the parking enforcement police had come to the station to dress up in riot gear - February 12th probably a good day to get away with illegal parking (large image).
