Such a star with [Fe/H]~ -5.3 has been observed: HE0107-5240 (Christlieb et al. 2002). This star may be a surviving remnant of either the population III or II epoch. Since its mass is so small, ~ 0.8 Ms, some observers suggest that it may have a large unmeasured amount of C and O, which would indicate that it belongs to the more metal rich population II.
