Astronomy Summer Program 2021

Welcome to the Department of Astronomy 2021 Summer Sessions Programs. We are excited to continue our Astrophysics NEW programs. Our Pre-college Astronomy Program is for our future Cal Bears! High school and Transfer students will have a good starting point for studying Astronomy at UC Berkeley. Our Global Astronomy Program is for International students looking for a top-notch education at the #1 public institution in the world! Our Pre-Major Program is for our prospective majors and current students ready to develop essential research skills.

By participating in the program, you will benefit from interacting with UC Berkeley faculty and instructors, enroll in engaging Astrophysics courses and meet other highly motivated students from around the world. Our Introduction to Astronomy class is a great beginner’s course on your favorite Astronomy and Physics interests. Our Python course will provide a solid foundation in programming that is essential for Astrophysics, Physics and even Data Science undergraduate and graduate school. Programming also gives you that extra step of preparation for future careers in research and technology.  Complimenting the Python course, our Introduction to Research course allows you to enhance and explore your interest in research. Our Cultural Astronomy course is a chance for students to learn more about how our human culture views astronomy. This is a great course for non-STEM, arts and humanities, social and biological sciences majors! Finally, all our summer courses fulfill the Physical Science UC Breadth! Our programs are grouped in “areas of study” modules. For course details, please view the modules below.

Students in the program will be assigned an Astro advisor, attend informational town halls and receive exclusive invitations to many summer Astro-related seminars and events, including our highly anticipated Astro Night.

Please note: Participating in our Astro programs is optional. You can sign up for any module or take one class depending on your preference.
