Noah is a first-year graduate student working to push the cutting edge of astronomical instrumentation and computation to answer big questions about black holes, which sit at the intersection of our two most successful but incompatible theories, and planetary environments in the galaxy which may harbor life. He is currently working with Prof. Jessica Lu on improving the adaptive optics systems on the Keck telescopes which allow them to peer through the atmosphere and compete with or exceed the precision of space-based observatories.
As an undergraduate, Noah worked in Prof. David Martin's exoplanet group at Tufts University to study binary star systems and search for new circumbinary planets. He has also worked on the COSMIC instrument which searches for technological signs of extraterrestrial life using the VLA radio telescope, the characterization of advanced laser diode systems at Lawrence Livermore National Lab, and deep learning detection algorithms for neutrino interactions in the MicroBooNE detector at Fermilab.
Outside of research, Noah enjoys reading, cooking, and spending time in the outdoors backpacking and climbing.
