Isaac Laseter

Bio/CV:

Isaac Laseter recently joined UC Berkeley as a postdoctoral scholar working with Prof. Dan Stark, primarily on the SPURS dataset, the deepest UV JWST spectroscopy of the z > 8 Universe. Isaac completed his PhD at the University of Wisconsin–Madison under Prof. Michael Maseda, focusing on high-redshift galaxy formation and history, chemical abundances, and methods for measuring galaxy metallicities. Isaac's undergraduate studies were at the University of Texas at Austin under the supervision of Prof. Steven Finkelstein studying Lyman-alpha emitters. As a member of the SPURS program, he analyzes JWST galaxy spectra from the early Universe, studying extreme stellar populations, star formation processes, and gas-phase chemical enrichment. Beyond research, he has developed pre-college outreach programs that bring astronomy to students early in their education, works with science-center curators, and is keen to establish additional outreach in Berkeley. He is also a skydiving instructor with over 500 jumps and is always happy to talk about the sport. If you’re curious about jumping out of a perfectly good airplane, come find him and join in!
